The benefits of lemon for cancer treatment could be related to specific compounds found in them, which are limonoids and flavonoids. The studies have been conducted on animals and in laboratory conditions using human breast cancer cells.
A study in Europe was conducted, with participants afflicted with various forms of cancer. The participants consumed 150 grams of citrus 4 or more times per week.
The citrus was proven to be effective in decreasing the risks of cancer by significant percentages, with the exception of breast cancer. But, an American study did show a decrease in the risk of breast cancer in participants using the same portions of citrus. As long as they did not previously undergo hormone replacement therapy.
How to Include Lemons Into Your Daily Diet
When consuming citrus, remember to not just consume the juice, but also the peel and pulp, and even the seeds if possible. Further research shows that at least 75 grams of citrus daily, might be the optimal minimum intake, if you want to reduce your risks of cancer.
Lemons are very versatile in a wide variety of dishes, it is easy to ensure that you have lemon in at least one of your meals each day.
You can add lemon juice to your water and drink a glass of lemon water every day. But, because the peel of the lemon contains a larger amount of important vitamins than the juice, it is better if you find ways to add the peel into your daily diet as well.
To do this, either peel a lemon and put the peel in the freezer, or simply freeze the whole lemon. You can grate them as needed, adding it to your soups, salads, fish, rice, pasta, chicken and many other dishes.
