It is a healthy tip that you should drink water first thing in the morning, to unlock health benefits, including that of weight loss. Some people like to drink warm water, because it is easier for the body to absorb warm water and it is more soothing to the stomach. But others prefer to drink water with ice water, as they believe that cold water kicks the body’s metabolism into gear.
But what is better?
Which is Better? Cold Water or Warm Water to Boost Your Metabolism?
There is something to be said for drinking warm or cold water. Drinking a glass of ice water burns some calories, but not that much. As per the University of Washington, you burn 8 more calories for every one cup of cold water you drink, as compared to drinking one cup of room temperature water.
The reason you burn more calories when drinking cold water, as compared to room temperature water, is because your body is burning energy, to keep your temperature at 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. If you are trying to lose weight, those extra 8 calories, even if you drink a number of glasses of cold water daily, do not amount to much.
This may sound significant, but the reality is that drinking water, whether it is cold or warm, will help boost your metabolism, prevent overeating and save you calories over soda or other sugary drinks.
Although a warm cup of water may feel soothing to your stomach, there is no evidence to suggest that the body absorbs it any differently than if it was cold. Always remember that drinking water, is more important to your health and well-being than the temperature at which it is served.
