7 Things You Should Eat to Improve FocusEver experienced having difficulty focusing on the research texts and books in front of you while you are studying for exams? You are not the only one experiencing that. The usual thing you would go for is coffee but there are other healthier alternatives that have the same effect.

Eat any of the following while you try to mentally digest the pages of the book you are reading:

Green tea

Green tea has theanine and caffeine which both improve alertness. Everyone already knows what caffeine is as it is a dominant element of coffee. But for those not aware about theanine, it increases tranquility and controls the release of caffeine. The presence of theanine and caffeine improves speed and accuracy while developing a better grasp at focus.

Fatty fish

Salmon, mackerel, sardines, tuna and trout are great sources in omega-3, known for improving mental performance, mood, behavior and memory. The fatty acids in these fish species, especially, are also good for the heart.

Blueberries

Blueberries contain antioxidants like tannins, proanthocyanidins, anthocyanins and resveratrol that boost the flow of oxygen and blood into the brain which helps improve the memory and concentration for up to five hours. The fact that blueberries protect against dementia, heart disease and cancer is just great bonuses.

Avocado

Avocados have been known to enhance blood flow in the body and since all organs depend on blood flow, the brain sure will benefit from that. Also, it has a lot of fiber (at least 11 grams per avocado) which helps in making you feel like you are full.

Dark Chocolate

The small amount of caffeine in dark chocolate helps in maintaining mental alertness. Dark chocolate also stimulates the release of serotonin and endorphins which helps in lifting the mood. Just make sure you choose dark chocolate, not the milky or white one.

Nuts

Several members of the nut family, including walnuts and almonds, have essential amino acids and oils that help in focus. It is also a great source of vitamin E, which slows the decline of cognitive performance due to age. There is a reason why some people binge on nuts before an examination or thesis defense.

Bone Broth

Boiling bone in water brings out the nutrients that are in the bone marrow and meat. It has high levels of proline and glycine, amino acids responsible for the proper function of the immune system and memory. Plus, it is very economical as you can use the bones from last night’s meal.
