We’re fairly certain that Marilyn Monroe was talking about heels when she supposedly said, “Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world”. But what would you do if you can’t walk in said heels? Well, that basically negates any prospective conquests, whether you’re in the boardroom or the bar. Lucky for you, we have gathered a few extremely helpful tips for how to walk in heels with ease and grace. We recommend taking these tips to heart and try them out ASAP since heels aren’t going out of style anytime soon.
High-heeled shoes can be a girl’s best friend—makes you stand up taller, look slimmer, and feel more confident. However, walking in sky-high heels can be challenging if you’re not used to it. Don’t fret though, learning to fearlessly walk in high heels just takes a little practice. Follow these helpful tricks and you’ll be strutting like a Victoria Secret model in 5-inch stilettos in no time!
Trick 1. Arch your foot slightly
As you take step by step, or when you feel like slipping, arch your foot slightly to put pressure on the inside of your footwear. This will make your shoe fit closer to your foot, making it easier to move.
Trick 2. Imagine yourself walking in a straight line
When imagining a straight line, you’ll get better results if you look at your end point as you draw a straight line, rather than looking at your pencil as it moves. Like walking in heels, you’ll walk more gracefully if you look at your end point (like the podium at the end of the stage), and imagine a straight line going toward your end point, rather than looking down at your heels as you walk.
Trick 3. Lean slightly back
You may find you like to walk faster than your heels will allow, and end up craning your neck forward to compensate. This will make you look weird, so try to slightly lean back when walking in heels, as this will stabilize your tendency to lean forward.
Trick 4. Take your time
Walking too quickly in heels looks quite awkward. Between the smaller steps and finding balance, it’s best to take your time in heels. Moreover, walking slowly gives off an air of confidence.
Trick 5. Take little steps
You’ll have to take an increased number of small steps to go the same distance because wearing heels makes your stride shorter than normal. We’re not suggesting baby steps, but don’t take your usual long strides either.
Trick 6. Walk heel to toe, not toe to heel
The easiest way to appear like an amateur in heels is by putting your whole foot down as if you’re wearing flat shoes and not heels. Put your heel down first, followed by your toe. This way, you will make your walk look more natural.
Trick 7. Wear shoes that fit
When your shoes are too small, it makes the difficult task of walking naturally in heels almost impossible. Use shoe pads if your heels are too big, for a better fit.
