If you haven’t tried it, here’s a quick guide:

Acne patches are usually packaged as thin, vinyl-like sheets of sticky dots. They contain hydrocolloid that acts like a vacuum by sucking out all the pus and bacteria inside your zits.

Hydrocolloid dressings help absorb excess fluid while protecting pimples from trauma. It also helps the pimples from drying out, which can speed up healing time. The patches are removed from the sheets and applied on the affected area, and next day, you’ll see that it has a white pod in the center of your blemishes which means that it has worked its “miracle”. And when you pull the patch off, you’ll notice that it’s noticeably flatter and calmer.

Acne patches come in 2 types: medicated and non-medicated. While both patches are in the form of thin sticky tapes, the former has conventional acne medications. Both forms require on-spot application. Medicated acne patches are infused with 1 or more of the usual pimple treatment medications. The ingredients differ from one brand to another, but usually contains salicylic acid and tea tree oil. These patches work by letting the medication on your skin long enough for the ingredients to work on the pimple. They also helps you to avoid touching the affected area, keeping the extra dirt and grime from your fingers out of your skin and inhibiting bacteria from multiplying on the area.

The disadvantage to these patches is that if your skin is sensitive, you can get skin irritation if the products are applied for too long on your face. The main advantage of this pimple treatment is that these patches are worn on the affected area of your skin, sparing the rest of your skin from being irritated since treating healthy skin can make your skin dry and flaky.

Another advantage of using these patches is that they can heal your pimples faster since they provide a moist environment. They allow active ingredients to penetrate the skin and act on the pimple. They are waterproof so you do not need to reapply them after washing your face with water. They also protect the pimples from UV light, which keep you maintain an even skin tone by preventing pigmentation.

Non-medicated patches are best used if your zit is raised and has pus that needs to be sucked out. If the zit is inflamed but doesn’t have pus, then use the medicated patch. The medicated patches are so thin that if your pimple is flat, the patch will not appear visible when you wear it on your skin. The non-medicated patches is slightly more expensive than the medicated patches.
