Computer Vision Headaches

Since more and more people are using their computers every day for several hours, computer vision headache is considered the most common type of headache. When you are constantly exposed to bright light, whether it is from your computer, laptop, or smartphone, this can cause you to suffer from headaches. Aside from getting a headache while or after using your computer, you will recognize this type due to the following symptoms:

• Blurred vision or double vision
• Redness in the eyes
• Fatigue
• Neck pain

If you are experiencing this type of headache, a good solution is to stay away from bright light exposure. If you need to use your computer though, lower the intensity of the light. You can use a desk lamp, which evenly distributes light or you can have the computer screen lower than your eye level.

Giant Cell Arteritis Headaches

If your headache makes you feel like you have a painful jaw, this could be a sign of giant cell arteritis. Other symptoms include:

• Weight loss
• Blurred or double vision
• Fever
• Scalp tenderness

This headache happens when the lining of your arteries are inflamed. In general, patients who usually have this type of headache are those who are at least 50 years old. Although this is a serious form, it can be treated with the use of right medication. Unfortunately, if ignored continuously, this can cause permanent loss of vision.

Cervicogenic Headaches

If your headache comes with pain from your nape, just right between your upper neck and the skull, you may be suffering from cervicogenic headache. This often happens if you are not practicing good posture. When you hunch or slouch most of the time, this can cause your cervical spine or C2 junction to jam.

This is a very common type of headache as it happens not only in older people but can happen to everyone, most especially teens who have bad posture. You will know if you have this type of headache through the following symptoms:

• Tightness in the upper trapezius or between your upper neck and skull
• Discomfort in the muscle on the front of your neck
• Tension in your chest muscles
• Stiffness in a part of the shoulder blade
