How to Spot the Early Symptoms of CancerIf you enter a room and ask random people if they know anyone who has cancer, there’s a high chance that most of them will say “yes”. Cancer used to be such a big deal back in the day but now, it’s become so common that we are no longer surprised when we find out that someone died because of cancer. It is often detected when it’s at the terminal stage and unfortunately, all hope seems lost. There are those, however, who choose to fight the disease. They drink the necessary drugs and follow the treatments no matter how painful and expensive for as long as they get well in the long run. There are those, on the other hand, who end up losing the fight and leaving their friends and loved ones behind.

Cancer is a silent killer. However, recent British studies have shown that some cancers have manifestations that appear on your skin. When cancer is diagnosed early, it can be treated, slowed down, which can then lead to higher chances of survival.

Here are some early signs and symptoms of cancer:

  1. Unstoppable Bleeding or Bruising

One of the early signs of leukemia is unstoppable bleeding or bruising. This is because the red blood cells can no longer function normally, causing the blood to clot.

  1. Changes in the Fingernails

There are articles that tell you to pay attention to your nails because some disease symptoms are manifested in that part of your body. One of these diseases is lung cancer which forms enlargements at the edge of the fingernails, skin cancer which forms brown or black stains at the lower part of the nails, and liver cancer which causes white and pale nails.

  1. Bumps or Lumps

Bumps or lumps are some of the most known symptoms of cancer and it has scared people who felt it in some parts of their body. What causes them? Different types of cancer affect the lymphatic system. These changes cause bumps and lumps to form in certain parts of the body. Some are malignant, some are benign and the only way to find out is by talking to your doctor. You will undergo examination and, if the doctor thinks it’s necessary, surgery.

  1. Swelling on the Face

This is one of the cancer symptom’s that’s often ignored because it can always be ruled out as an allergic reaction to food you ate or makeup you used. Not a lot of people know that swelling on the face and neck are possible indications that you have lung cancer. To find out if you do or do not have lung cancer, consult your doctor the moment you notice some swollen parts on your face and neck.

Some early signs of cancer appear as red sores, itches, and swelling on the breast. While these symptoms may also indicate that you’re about to have your period or your bra is too tight, it’s still best consult your doctor immediately once you see them.

  1. Changes on the Nipple

Some people chuckle at the thought but paying attention to your nipples can actually spare you from cancer. When nipples become inverted, sideways, or flattened, these could be signs that you have breast cancer. Seek the help of your doctor once you notice any of these nipple changes.

  1. Sore Throat

Sore throat that’s rusty and bleeds easily are indications that you have any of the following types of skin cancer: squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma, and basal cell carcinoma.

It is difficult to spot these symptoms because they are vaguely similar to the symptoms of other diseases. Sometimes we think that they are normal, and sometimes we rule them out as allergic reaction to something that we ate or applied on our skin. Some symptoms are too small that we fail to notice them and some symptoms are often brushed off as consequences of workout routines or signs that women are about to start their menstrual period.

Our bodies are so brilliant. It has ways of telling us that there is something wrong that’s why it’s important that we pay attention and listen to our body. If we see some changes, we should observe, do some research, and then consult our doctor to help us figure out if these symptoms are cancer-related or not. One of the common mistakes that we make when we notice these signs and symptoms is that we try to hide it from the doctor. We do our own research and we try to do things our way because we’re too afraid to hear what the doctor has to say. That should not be the case. Doctors are there to help you understand why you’re having these symptoms and come up with treatment plans just in case it is indeed “the big c”.
